An Iranian delegation led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf arrived in Islamabad, Pakistan, late Friday night. The officials will engage in talks with the United States delegation led by Vice President JD Vance, including special envoy Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner.

Islamabad Talks 2026

The talks in Islamabad aim at extending the ceasefire and ending the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, which has disrupted global supply chains and the world economy. Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday said the upcoming US-Iran talks in Islamabad are a “make or break” chance to secure a permanent ceasefire. He called the negotiations a major step toward resolving the conflict through dialogues.

Currently, a two-week ceasefire is in effect in this conflict, which has reportedly claimed more than 3,000 lives so far. While Iran and the US have ceased direct attacks against one another since April 7, Israel, on the other hand, has continued its strikes on Lebanon. All these developments are unfolding against the backdrop of this crucial meeting set to take place in Islamabad.

It is expected that the primary focus of the talks will be the 15-point proposal sent to Iran by the US, to which Tehran has responded with a 10-point counter-proposal. It remains unclear whether the issue of Lebanon will be formally discussed.

When And Where Will the Talks Take Place?

The discussions are scheduled to commence on Saturday morning (Pakistan Standard Time) at the Islamabad Serena Hotel. The Pakistani government has reportedly chosen the property for the event. On Wednesday, the Serena hotel management issued a formal notice, informing the guests that Pakistan’s government had requisitioned the property for an “important event, effective immediately, until Sunday evening.”

Who All Are Participating?

According to AFP, US Vice President JD Vance will lead the American delegation, which will also include Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and the President's son-in-law, Jared Kushner. Iran’s delegation to the US-Iran talks in Islamabad is being led by Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf (Speaker of Parliament, head of delegation).
