US-Russia-Ukraine Trilateral Peace Talks: As the Russia-Ukraine war enters its fourth year of full-scale conflict, new developments are emerging in the search for peace, with the United States taking a leading role in negotiations. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that the United Arab Emirates will host trilateral talks this week involving officials from Ukraine, the United States, and Russia.
The talk is scheduled to take place on January 23 and 24 in the UAE. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the announcement during a panel discussion following his speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Thursday.
Zelensky explained that this would be the first such meeting between the three nations and expressed hope that it could contribute to ending the war.
"Tomorrow and the day after, we will have a trilateral meeting. It's better than having no dialogue at all," Zelensky remarked.
Zelenskyy’s announcement came after an hour-long meeting with US President Donald Trump, who described their conversation as "good". The Ukrainian president revealed that the Ukrainian team had met with Trump on Thursday, and the US delegation would then travel to Russia for their own discussions.
"Our team is meeting with the Americans today, then tomorrow the Americans will meet with the Russians, tonight – but when, I don't know. Perhaps Putin will be sleeping, you said no one knows what’s in his mind," Zelensky said.
The comedian-turned-politician stressed that "the Russians need to be ready for compromises". He added, "Everyone should be ready, not just Ukraine, and that’s important for us. We’ll see what the results will be."
Though Zelenskyy did not provide specific details about the structure of the talks, he hinted that the negotiations could involve both direct and indirect dialogue between the parties.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump held talks with President Zelensky on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, with the war in Ukraine remaining a central topic of discussion at the summit.

According to CNN, the meeting concluded after lasting around an hour. The Ukrainian Presidency had earlier said the talks between the two leaders were underway in Davos, before later confirming the meeting had ended.
After the closed-door interaction, Zelenskyy's communications advisor said he had a "good meeting" with Trump in Davos on Thursday.

Trump later told reporters the meeting had gone well but said there is still "a ways to go" toward ending the war with Russia. "The war has to end," he said as he emerged from the meeting with Zelenskyy. "We hope it's going to end. There are a lot of people being killed."
