Mumbai News: In a rare incident, a 70-year-old woman in Mumbai set an example as she selflessly donated a kidney to her daughter-in-law, who was battling renal failure. The news made rounds on social media as Maharashtra Pradesh Congress general secretary Sachin Sawant who live in the same building shared the post on his social media account.

"Very rare incident in the country happened in our Satyam Tower CHS. Both kidneys of Amisha Jitesh Mota (43), daughter-in-law of the Mota family, failed. The kidneys of her mother-in-law Prabha Kantilal Mota (70) were matched & mother-in-law happily donated her kidney to her daughter-in-law. Both got operated in Nanavati on Tuesday," Sawant shared a post with a video on X.

"Daughter-in-law is still in hospital. When the mother-in-law arrived home, she was greeted like this. All mothers-in-law should follow this example set by the Mota family, especially Prabhaji. Congratulations to Prabhaji," he added further.

The 43-year-old Amisha Jitesh Mota was diagnosed with kidney problems in November 2022. After Prabha Kantilal Mota, mother-in-law of Amisha learnt about this, she decided to donate one of her kidneys.

"In April, her nephrologist Dr Jatin Kothari told her she could opt for pre-emptive kidney transplant or start dialysis," said Amisha’s brother-in-law Jignesh, as quoted by Times Of India (TOI). "On seeing Amisha crying, my mother told her she was willing to donate one of her kidneys,” he added.

As Amisha's husband Jitesh was diagnosed with diabetes recently, he was not eligible to donate. However, his mother came to rescue her daughter-in-law's life. Taking about her brave move, Prabha said as she does not have daughters so she considered three daughters-in-law as her own children.

"I don’t have daughters and have considered my three daughters-in-law as my own children. When Amisha was crying, I knew I had to do something to help her,” she told TOI.

Prabha was discharged on Friday and returned home to a floral welcome by her elder daughter-in-law.
