Maharashtra News: In a bizarre and sexist act, a 73-year-old Congress leader from Maharashtra’s Ulhasnagar was forced into a saree by BJP workers to humiliate him for posting a morphed image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The social media post by a Congress leader, ‘Mama’ Pagare, triggered a controversy, with angry local BJP leaders showing up to confront Pagare in public on Tuesday morning.

Here's What Happened

- BJP workers arrived with the BJP's Kalyan unit president, Nandu Parab, and forcibly draped him in a red saree to humiliate him for the post, which he made recently. BJP workers also made a video of Pagare to circulate it widely in an attempt to humiliate him even further. The Congress leader said that he will take action against the involved BJP leaders.

- In the viral video, Pagare is heard protesting and shouting, 'What are you doing?' as BJP workers force the saree on him. Before leaving, BJP leaders were seen threatening that anyone engaging in such behaviour would face similar consequences, implying that they would be treated in a like manner.

- Talking about the post on PM Modi in question, Pagare told the media that he had merely forwarded the existing post on Facebook.

- "Later, I received a call from BJP leader Sandeep Mali while I was in the hospital. As I was coming out of the hospital, Sandeep Mali, along with a group of people, grabbed me and started asking me about a post I had forwarded on Facebook and threatened me," Pagare said.

- Further adding on what happened, Pagare said, “I told them what they were doing was wrong. A case should be filed against them (BJP workers). I will take legal action against them, invoking the Atrocities Act.”

"The way Congress leader Prakash Pagare insulted PM Modi, it will not be tolerated. If such a thing is repeated, our workers will take action similar to the way it was done today," local BJP leader Narendra Sharma reportedly said.
