BMC Polls: Mahayuti Pledges Illegal Bangladeshi Immigrants Detection, Deportation Through AI Tool; What's It, When Will It Be Ready?

In run to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation election, the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Mahayuti on Sunday released its poll manifesto and among many eye-catching promises is the use of modern artificial technology to detect and deport illegal Bangladeshi and Rohingya immigrants.

Unveiling the manifesto of the Mahayuti for the BMC polls, Fadnavis said, "We will free Mumbai of Bangladeshis and Rohingyas. With the help of IIT, we will develop an AI tool to identify Bangladeshi migrants."

What is' Mahayuti's AI tool?

According to CM Fadnavis, the AI tool to detect illegal migrants is under development. While speaking at an NDTV event, CM Fadnavis said that the AI tool is being developed in collaboration with IIT Bombay. At present, it is working with 60 per cent accuracy.

"We understood their modus operandi - they first come to West Bengal and then prepare fake documents. They then travel to different parts of the country and use various government schemes," he was quoted by NDTV as saying.

However, CM Fadnavis did not specifically mention how such an AI tool will work to detect illegal immigrants

When will it be developed?

Addressing the media at the manifesto launch alongside Deputy CM Eknath Shinde and BJP National General Secretary Vinod Tawde, Fadnavis said, "We'll free Mumbai from Bangladeshis. We've deported the highest so far. With AI, we'll identify and deport 100% Bangladeshis. The AI tool will be ready in 6 months. Soon, there will be 10,000 BEST buses on the roads. We'll identify and deport illegal Bangladeshis. Don't worry about those leaders who've failed."

What did the opposition say?

Reacting to the Mahayuti manifesto, the Maharashtra Congress on Sunday asked CM Fadnavis to make public the data on Bangladeshi nationals and Rohingyas.

Asking CM Fadnavis to make the data on illegal immigrants public, Maharashtra Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant said that if the government has indeed identified the highest number, it should release the figures.
