BMC Polls: The ruling Mahayuti alliance on Sunday released its manifesto for the much-hyped Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections scheduled to be held on January 15. The manifesto was released in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and mainly focuses on urban infrastructure, public transport, and governance. Earlier on January 5, the Thackeray brothers, Raj and Uddhav, also released their manifesto, majorly focusing on Marathi culture and employment. While the Thackerays will contest to maintain their dominance on the richest civic body of India, the Mahayuti alliance will try to establish its authority this time.

Mahayuti Alliance Manifesto: Key Points

- The ruling alliance will work with IIT Bombay to identify Bangladeshi migrants

- Affordable healthcare for all Mumbai residents

- Use of artificial intelligence to improve transparency and curb corruption in civic administration

- AI labs in all municipal schools of Mumbai

- The ruling alliance has promised to double the BEST bus fleet from around 5,000 to 10,000 vehicles

- The alliance will offer a 50 per cent concession on fares for women

- “Midi” and “Mini” bus services to be introduced to strengthen last-mile connectivity

- “Flood-free Mumbai” plan to eliminate waterlogging by adopting Japanese techniques

- Establishment of a cultural department to promote local art, heritage, and traditions

Thackeray Brothers' Manifesto:

- Monthly allowance of Rs 1,500 for registered women domestic workers under the “Swabhiman Nidhi” scheme

- Free electricity up to 100 units per household and free water supply

- Minimum BEST bus fare to be reduced from Rs 10 to Rs 5

- Mumbai’s land will be used to build houses for the locals

- One lakh affordable homes will be built over the next five years for BMC, government, and BEST employees and mill workers

- The alliance announced that the property tax will be waived for houses up to 700 sq ft

- Five new medical colleges to be established

- Essential vacancies in the BMC to be filled

Apart from this, Congress has promised to improve air quality and introduce universal health cards that will provide citizens with free medicines.
