BMC Results: The Mahayuti alliance registered a comfortable victory in the much-hyped Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), ending Shiv Sena's nearly three-decade-old dominance of the richest civic body in India. While the ruling alliance registered victory on 117 out of the total 227 seats, the Thackeray brothers could only manage to win 67 seats. The BJP, under the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, became the single largest party by winning 90 seats. While the saffron party is most likely to get its mayor in Mumbai, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde might bring another twist to the tale.
While the BJP managed to become the single largest party, it still remained 25 seats away from the majority mark, leading to confusion. The experts believe that Shinde is likely to either demand some top posts or its own mayor for 2.5 years to send a strong message among the party workers, reported NDTV. The spokespersons from Shinde's Sena added fuel to the speculations by stating that the mayor of Mumbai should be from Shiv Sena.
"The mayor of Mumbai should be from the Shiv Sena because it is Balasaheb's (Bal Thackeray's) legacy," one of the spokespersons was quoted as saying by NDTV. Apart from this, party chief Eknath Shinde stated that the allies will sit together to decide the mayor and other key posts. "Our agenda is development. We fought as the Mahayuti (grand alliance) and will sit together to decide what is best in the interest of Mumbai," Shinde told the reporters.

While Shinde's Sena and BJP are the two major partners of the ruling alliance, they contested against each other on several seats in the recently concluded local body polls. Apart from this, Shinde also reportedly claimed the chief ministerial post after the Assembly election.
