Maharashtra Weather Update: Contrary to its earlier weather warning, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday downgraded its forecast for Mumbai and surrounding areas, stating that the city is now unlikely to receive heavy or even moderate rainfall in the coming days due to Cyclone Shakhti.

“Even though a cyclonic formation has developed in the Arabian Sea, it is still very far from Mumbai. Therefore, as of now, there is no chance that Mumbai, along with the interiors of Maharashtra, will witness heavy rainfall activity. However, light spells of rain in the form of drizzle may continue for the next week,” The Indian Express quoted an official as saying.

Mumbai To Receive Rain Until October 8: IMD

- The MeT department in a five-day forecast on Saturday stated that Mumbai and surrounding areas may receive light, scattered rain or drizzle until October 8.

- Downgrading its earlier forecast, the IMD said that light rain or drizzle is also expected in Thane and Raigad districts.

- The IMD officials have said that the storm is too far from the coast to have a significant impact on Mumbai’s weather.

- However, the weather department has issued an alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in Palghar on October 8.

“Even though a cyclonic formation has developed in the Arabian Sea, it is still very far from Mumbai. Therefore, as of now, there is no chance that Mumbai, along with the interiors of Maharashtra, will witness heavy rainfall activity,” the official added.

The latest forecast represents a significant change from the earlier forecasts that had raised public alarm over heavy rain and strong winds associated with Cyclone Shakhti developing over the Arabian Sea.

The cyclone had triggered precautionary measures across the Konkan region, including Mumbai, amid concerns about potential urban flooding and local disruptions.

- Authorities have advised fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea and urged the residents to avoid going to low-lying areas.
