In a shocking video that’s gone viral, Rahil Sheikh son of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Javed Sheikh is seen drunk, half-naked, and hurling abuses at a woman for speaking in Marathi. The footage shows Rahil not only verbally attacking the woman but also boasting about his father's political influence, bringing further scrutiny to a party that often positions itself as the defender of Marathi identity.

Following the viral uproar, police confirmed that Rahil Sheikh has been booked on multiple charges, including threatening and abusing a woman social media influencer while under the influence of alcohol.

"Rahil Shaikh was booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for outraging the modesty of a woman and other offences as well as drunken driving and other violations under Motor Vehicles Act. He was allowed to go after being served a notice, while his car has been seized," the official said.

Sharing the video online, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Nirupam slammed the incident and called out the hypocrisy of those claiming to uphold Marathi pride.

“Drunk out of his senses. Half-naked. An MNS leader's son is hurling abuses at a Marathi-speaking woman. On top of that, he's flaunting his father's influence. See the real face of those who claim to protect Marathi pride. Are these the same MNS people attacking Hindus under the pressure of Muslims?” Nirupam wrote on social media.

He later demanded strict action against Rahil Sheikh while speaking to NDTV.

This controversy comes at a time when several MNS workers have been accused of threatening and assaulting non-Marathi speakers, echoing party chief Raj Thackeray’s aggressive campaign in the name of linguistic identity one often compared to Bal Thackeray's early politics.

Targeting the MNS, Nirupam accused the party of indulging in pure hooliganism. “They are doing nothing but gundagardi in the name of language. That is the ground reality of MNS,” he said.

“Our government is not at all against Marathi, rather we are promoting the language,” he added, distancing the ruling establishment from MNS-style tactics.

The video has further deepened the debate around language, identity politics, and the gap between public posturing and private conduct within Maharashtra's regional parties.

A further probe into the case is currently underway, officials added.
