A drug peddler named Kamran Mohammad Khan, arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, recently secured bail and came out of jail. As the accused reached home, he was welcomed with grandiosity as he was received with loud music, firecrackers and slogans on his homecoming. 

45 people were booked after they caused public nuisance as they celebrated Khan’s return from jail. The police took note of the celebration as the video of the nuisance went viral, which occurred on July 16.

Khan’s former prison inmates and 35 others gathered outside the Thane Central Jail on the night of July 16 when the accused secured bail. The group of 45, along with Kamran Mohammad Khan, marched to Nayanagar in Mira Road in a convoy of cars, where they assembled near a hotel and burst firecrackers, raising slogans. 

According to the official, the large group played loud music and created an "atmosphere of fear and public disturbance.” 

"The video clips were circulated widely online, and the complainant, an officer of the police station, took note of the footage, in which the group was seen flouting prohibitory orders that were in force at the time," the official added.

A case against 45 people has been registered at the Mira-Bhayandar Vasai-Virar (MBVV) Police station. Taking a suomotu cognisance, a case under Section 189 (unlawful assembly) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and relevant sections of the Maharashtra Police Act was registered.

Nine out of 45 people have been identified by name in the FIR, as police are making efforts to identify the rest.
