The high-end vehicles, including CNG and LNG cars and good carriers, are set to become costlier in Maharashtra from today. The cost rise is attributed to the revised one-time tax structure of the state government, the official said. The cap for one-time tax has been increased from Rs 20 lakh to Rs 30 lakh.

For petrol: In Maharashtra, the one-time tax for a petrol vehicle registered under the name of an individual is

Commercial vehicles, including pickup trucks and construction vehicles weighing up to 7,500 kg, will now attract a 7 per cent tax on all price categories. Earlier, the weight-based system was used to incur tax. With the new system, the cost of this category of vehicle priced at Rs 10 lakh is expected to rise by Rs 50,000.

Moreover, the vehicles registered in the name of a company or imported will now be taxed at a flat 20 per cent. The government has continued to exempt electric vehicles (EVs) from the revised tax structure.
