Hidayatullah Patel Killed: Hidayatullah Patel (66), Maharashtra Congress vice president, died on Wednesday morning. He was stabbed at a mosque in Akola district and succumbed to his injuries during treatment, said police.
According to police, Patel was attacked with a sharp weapon by the accused at around 1.30 pm on Tuesday after he offered namaz at a Jama Masjid in Mohala village.

Why Was Congress Leader Attacked?
Earlier, he was hospitalised after being stabbed by unidentified persons soon after he offered namaz at a mosque in Akot taluka of the district, police said. Police said, Patel was attacked over an old enmity at Mohala on Tuesday afternoon.
The former district Congress president sustained injuries in the incident and was taken to a private hospital in Akot. Around 1.30 pm, just as he was stepping out of the mosque after offering namaz, unidentified assailants attacked him on his neck with sharp weapons. Local residents rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he died during the treatment.

The Akot rural police registered a murder case. They said one of accused has been nabbed. Teams have been formed to trace the other attackers, they stated.
Former Maharashtra minister and Congress leader, Yashomati Thakur condoled his death, saying the party colleague's demise is extremely heartbreaking.
