Security forces in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district stated that Uttar Gadchiroli region is now naxal-free. The confirmation came after security forces neutralised 12 Naxal cadres including five women in Wandoli village on the Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh border on Wednesday. The operation was carried out by C60 commandos and Gadchiroli Police, officials said. 

Superintendent of Police Gadchiroli, Neelotpal, confirmed that the Naxalities were involved in various crimes, including encounters, arson and murder. Among the deceased is Laxman Atram, a Divisional Committee member in charge of the Tipagad Dalam. Identification of the other Naxals and area searches are ongoing.

"All armed formations and cadres in Uttar Gadchiroli have been neutralised by the police. Uttar Gadchiroli is now naxal-free," the senior official said after the successful completion of the operation, declaring the region Naxal-free.

The encounter began on July 17 when seven C-60 parties, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police, were dispatched to the Chhattisgarh border near Wandoli village. The firefight, which lasted intermittently for six hours, resulted in the deaths of the 12 Naxals. One police sub-inspector and one jawan sustained injuries but are now out of danger and receiving treatment in Nagpur.

The area search post-encounter led to the recovery of seven automatic weapons, including three AK-47s, two INSAS rifles, one carbine and one SLR. Security forces have intensified search operations in the region and continue to monitor the situation closely.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced a cash reward of Rs 51 lakhs to the C60 commandos and Gadchiroli Police for their successful operation, praising their efforts.
