Maharashtra politics has witnessed a turbulent ride in the past few days after the results of the Maharashtra civic body were announced on January 16. The national parties, BJP and Congress, have accused each other of trying to approach the corporators on several key seats. Apart from this, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) extended support to its rival Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena in the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC). However, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut asserted that the decision was taken by the local leaders and MNS chief Raj Thackeray was not aware of the situation. Apart from this, the alliance partners Shiv Sena and BJP are also reportedly involved in conflicts on several seats.

Rift Among Thackeray Brothers?

The Thackeray brothers, Raj and Uddhav, joined hands after two decades to fight the civic body polls together; however, the alliance could not win the BMC polls. However, a rift in the alliance emerged after the MNS extended its support to Uddhav's rival Eknath Shinde's Sena in the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC).

The support will enable Shinde's Sena to appoint its mayor without the support of BJP even after they fought the polls together. On being asked about the situation, Sanjay Raut stated that the decision to support Shinde was not taken by Raj Thackeray.

"Raj Thackeray is very distressed by the way the local people have taken this decision. Raj Sahab says that this is not his role. This is not his party's role...If the local people have made a decision against the party, then strict action should be taken against them. Just as in Ambernath, when 12 Congress councillors joined the BJP, they were expelled from the party. In our party too, whoever works against us is expelled," Raut told the reporters.

BJP-Shiv Sena Conflict Reports

Apart from this, the alliance partners BJP and Shiv Sena are also not on the same page on several seats, including Ulhasnagar, Kalyan-Dombivli, and the capital city Mumbai.
