The Shri Hazur Sahib Takht in Maharashtra's Nanded has imposed a new dress code for brides, prohibiting them from wearing Lehenga and Ghagra during Anand Karaj. Brides are also directed to not wear revealing clothes in the name of fashion to the 'Takht'.
The jathedar (leader) of Takht Shir Hazur Sahib, Kulwinder Singh, directed women to only wear suits during Anand Karaj and banned wearing Lehanga or Ghagra during the ceremony. The decision was taken during a meeting on Friday, which was held under the chairmanship of Jathedar Kulwinder Singh and Singh Sahibano.
In the meeting, objections were also expressed on not mentioning Singh or Kaur surnames in front of the names of the bride and groom, respectively on the marriage invitation cards and it was made mandatory to do so.
According to Singh Sahibano, this decision will reduce marriage expenditure and will also provide ease to the bride in taking 'pheras' during Anand Karaj.
Takht, which translates to a throne or seat of authority in a gurdwara, has a very special significance for the Sikh community. Hazur Sahib is one of the five Takhts of the Sikhs and is situated on the banks of the Godavari River.
