The series of hit-and-run incidents have raised concerns about road safety and law enforcement in Maharashtra. These incidents occur amid public outrage over a hit-and-run case in Mumbai's Worli. A couple, returning home after buying fish, was hit by a speeding BMW. The woman died after being dragged on the car's bonnet for nearly 1.5 kilometres.

The accused, Mihir Shah, son of a leader of the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction, was arrested after three days. CCTV footage of the incident revealed Shah and his driver, Rajrishi Bidawat, exchanging seats, dragging the woman for 1.5 kilometres and then reversing over her body before fleeing.
