Maratha Quota Row: Manoj Jarange, leader of the Maratha Quota protest, ended his hunger strike after the Maharashtra government accepted most of his demands on the fifth day of the protest, including giving Kunbi caste certificates to the eligible Marathas. The Maratha activist was seen in tears after announcing victory as his supporters and the fellow protestors celebrated and raised slogans. He ended his strike by drinking a glass of fruit juice offered by the senior BJP leader Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil.

However, Jarange also warned that the protest will resume if the government will not fulfill all the promises, adding that he will protest at Vikhe's home. "I warn Vikhe Patil if there is any attempt to deceive us on implementation of the Government Resolution (GR) on implementation of the Hyderabad gazette, in which a three-member committee will be set up at village level, and promises like providing jobs to the kin of Maratha activists who lost their lives in protests, withdrawal of cases against protesters, we will not keep quiet. I will come to Vikhe's home and sit there till I die,' Jarange stated.

While announcing the victory, Jarange stated that the committee has assured that the implementation of the Satara Gazette will be done in a month's time. He further assured that cases against Maratha protesters filed earlier will also be withdrawn by the end of September. The activist also stated that financial help and government jobs will be given to the family members of the protestors who have died during the protests so far.

Apart from this, the Bombay High Court allowed Jarange to stay at the Azad Maidan till the morning of September 3.The court had earlier asked the protestors to vacate the key area of the city by 3 PM, further slamming the administration for not implementing the court's orders.

The ruling from the high court came after the advocates appearing for Jarange assured that an outcome is expected in this matter in the next few hours. However, the court emphasised that it would go to any extent to uphold the majesty of law if the situation does not improve on Wednesday.
