Mumbai News: Three people lost their lives and another was critically injured in a head-on collision between two speeding two-wheelers at Suraksha Smart City in Vasai East on Saturday night.
According to the police, the accident occurred on a stretch in Madhuban, which has low traffic and poor street lighting. Due to these factors, it is common for two-wheeler riders to speed and even engage in races in the area.

The victims, Jiyalal Yadav (60) and Wakil Mahendra (50), were riding an Activa and heading towards Vasai station around 8 PM after work. They usually took a train home to Goregaon. Their scooter collided with a Hero Honda Splendor, which was being ridden by Rakesh Verma (35), with Vikas Daud (30) as the pillion rider.
According to a Hindustan Times report, the impact of the collision threw all four riders off their vehicles. Yadav, Mahendra, and Verma died on the spot, while Daud sustained severe injuries and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Vasai.
Passersby immediately informed the police, who arrived at the scene, conducted a panchnama and sent the bodies for post-mortem. A case has been registered against both riders, Yadav and Verma, for rash and negligent driving.

A police officer from Waliv police station noted that the Madhuban stretch lacks traffic signals and speed breakers, making it prone to accidents. The ongoing construction of Suraksha Smart City has further added to road safety concerns.
In separate incident on Sunday at Balaram Khedekar Marg in Wadala, a car ran over a one-and-a-half-year-old boy and his mother while they were asleep on a footpath. The child, Vardan Londhe, died from severe injuries, while his mother, Priya, suffered a fractured shoulder. The driver, Kamal Vijay Riya, swerved to avoid a collision and lost control of his car, mounting the footpath. The incident happened around 12:15 am when the child's father was out working. The driver has been arrested and an FIR has been filed against him for negligent driving and causing death by negligence.
