Mumbai Accident: A four-year-old boy was killed after a speeding car hit him in Mumbai, police said on Sunday. The 19 year-old driver, identified as Sandeep Gole, has been arrested. He was driving a Hyundai Creta and is a resident of Vile Parle. As per the police, the family of the victim, identified as Ayush Laxman Kinvade, lives on the footpath. His father is a worker. Further investigation is underway.

This comes days after 54-year-old Sanjay More, a Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport Undertaking (BEST) bus driver crashed the bus driven by him into pedestrians and multiple vehicles in Mumbai’s Kurla West area. The driver’s actions claimed at least seven lives and injured 43 others.
The incident occurred when the driver of the BEST bus, on route 332, lost control of the vehicle and rammed into at least 30-40 vehicles near the congested Kurla railway station before crashing into the wall of a residential society, according to the police.
According to the investigating officials, the accused driver was on a contract and had joined the BEST on December 1. Regional Transport Office officials also said that the tragic accident occurred due to human error and insufficient training to operate an Electronic Vehicle (EV).

The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways last week said Maharashtra was among the states that have witnessed the highest number of road accidents in the last five years.
The report, based on data received from various states and Union Territories, revealed that more than 7 lakh people have died across India in road accidents in the 2018-2022 period.
Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest number of road accident deaths (1,08,882), followed by Tamil Nadu (84,316) and Maharashtra (66,370).
