In a serious aviation incident at Mumbai Airport, an IndiGo flight from Indore to Mumbai landed on the same runway from which an Air India flight was taking off for Thiruvananthapuram. Responding to the incident, the Directorate of Civil Aviation has initiated an investigation and temporarily removed an Air Traffic Control official from duty.
The incident, captured in a social media video, shows the Air India jet ascending just moments before the IndiGo aircraft touches down. This close call has raised concerns about passenger safety and air traffic control protocols.
Such a scary view.. This would have been a disaster. #Airindia #Indigo

IndiGo’s statement claimed that their pilot adhered to all instructions from the Air Traffic Control during the incident on June 8, 2024. The airline emphasised its commitment to passenger safety and reported the occurrence following standard procedures.
"On Jun 8, 2024, IndiGo flight 6E 6053 from Indore was given landing clearance by ATC at Mumbai Airport. The Pilot in Command continued the approach and landing and followed ATC instructions. At IndiGo, passenger safety is paramount to us, and we have reported the incident as per procedure," the airline said.
Similarly, Air India stated that it received clearance for take-off from the Air Traffic Control. The airline followed all required procedures during the take-off roll and has cooperated with the ongoing investigation to understand the sequence of clearances.
"AI657 from Mumbai to Trivandrum was on take-off roll on June 8. The Air India aircraft was cleared by Air Traffic Control to enter the runway and subsequently cleared for take-off. The Air India aircraft continued with the take-off movement in accordance with laid down procedures. An investigation has been initiated by the authorities to find out more on the clearance given to the airlines," Air India said in a statement.
