Mumbai News: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced plans to acquire land for the northern extension of the Coastal Road, which will stretch from Bandra to Dahisar. On Wednesday, the BMC issued a notice to change the reservation status of 60 land plots located along Mumbai’s coast, which fall under the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ). This change is necessary to facilitate the Coastal Road project between Goregaon and Dahisar.

According to a Times Of India report, the BMC has invited public feedback on the proposed alignment for the Coastal Road's northern extension. Citizens can submit their suggestions and objections within the next 30 days, after which a public hearing will be held.

The land parcels under consideration are situated in several areas, including Goregaon, Malad, Charkop, Borivali, Eksar and Dahisar. Currently, the Development Plan (DP) for 2034 only shows the road alignment up to Bangur Nagar in Goregaon, but an extension to Dahisar is now required. Officials indicate that about 70 per cent of the affected land is owned by the state government, while the remainder is privately held, mostly classified under the CRZ, making it largely undevelopable.

According to the notice, the BMC’s bridges department has proposed the Coastal Road Project, which will cover approximately 17.6 km from the Versova-Bandra sea link interchange to the Dahisar interchange. When combined with the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road connector, the total project length comes to 22 km.

The proposed alignment from the GMLR connector to Dahisar will span 11.4 km, with widths ranging from 36.6 m to 53 m. This section will also include 3.5 km of connectors and interchanges, with widths between 10 m and 40 m, affecting wards P-North (Malad), R-South (Kandivali), R-Central (Borivali) and R-North (Dahisar).

The BMC aims to reflect these changes in the DP-2034 under Section 37(1) of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966.
