Western Railway is all set to launch India’s first digital lounge, a full-fledged co-working facility, at Mumbai Central Railway Station. The initiative is to make Indian Railways to modernise station infrastructure and offer enhanced amenities to passengers. To match airport-level standards, the lounge will be located between the food plazas and platforms, providing a convenient workspace for travellers awaiting long-distance trains.

Mumbai Central Railway Station Digital Lounge Facilities

The 1,712 sq ft lounge will transform an unused space into a modern co-working hub, featuring a mix of shared workstations and private cubicles. Fully air-conditioned, it will offer high-speed internet, charging points, comfortable seating, printing and scanning services, and light refreshments through self-dispensing machines. Additionally, the lounge will include conference rooms and meeting areas, suitable for small professional or social gatherings.

The lounge is aimed at catering to the needs of the new generation, providing a space where travellers can productively use their waiting time for work-related activities, according to officials. “The facility is being developed keeping in mind the digital generation who prefer working on the go and would utilise their waiting time for productive purposes,” said Vineet Abhishek, Chief Public Relations Officer, Western Railway.

It will have 20 to 50 passengers capacities at a time, the lounge will be open to both train travellers and the general public. According to officials, it is expected to operate on an hourly fee basis under a private partnership model.

As part of the Rs 947 crore Station Improvement Project by Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation, similar digital lounges are planned at key locations including Andheri, Goregaon, Borivali, Bandra Terminus, and several others.

“After this lounge is successful, we also plan to extend it to other railway stations on the western railway as it gains popularity,” added the spokesperson.

 “The project also maximises non-fare revenue for Indian Railways by making efficient use of underutilised station space,” said Abhishek.

The lounge is expected to open to the public in the coming months, providing a seamless blend of mobility and productivity at one of Mumbai’s busiest railway terminals.
