Back in 2022, Nothing founder Carl Pei teased fans with a bold concept sketch by Yanko Design, jokingly dubbing it the “Crazy cool Nothing Head (1)”. What looked like a futuristic daydream back then is now on track to becoming a real product. In a newly released behind-the-scenes video on Nothing’s official YouTube channel, the company finally confirmed what many have been anticipating: its first-ever pair of over-ear headphones is coming soon.

Nothing's First Headphones Are Finally Official

After years of teasing, concept art, and speculation, Nothing is officially entering the over-ear headphone market. The company has confirmed that the device will launch this year, and by the looks of things, it could arrive as early as this summer.

The video not only confirms the launch but also offers a look into the brand’s design philosophy. The team didn’t hold back when sharing their thoughts on current options in the market — “don’t like a single” existing design, one designer admits. Instead, they’re aiming for a simpler, more intuitive interface that prioritises ease of use over complex controls. While technical details are still under wraps, the team describes the upcoming headphones as something “that says something about you”.

Designed to Challenge the Big Players

Nothing clearly isn’t just dipping its toes in the water. The company is directly targeting premium models like Apple’s AirPods Max and Sony’s WH-1000XM6. But it’s also keeping price in mind. The headphones are expected to be a more affordable alternative to those “really expensive” options — without compromising on performance. Sound quality remains front and centre, with one team member confidently stating, “I think they’re better than AirPods Max.”

To fine-tune the experience further, Nothing plans to actively involve its community during the development process, gathering feedback before the final release.

Partnering with KEF for Audio Excellence

This isn’t a solo effort either. The headphones will be the first product born out of Nothing’s new partnership with legendary British audio brand KEF. A company spokesperson confirmed that the collaboration will “support Nothing’s expansion into new audio categories”, with more co-developed products expected later in the year.

Expected Launch Timeline

While an exact date hasn’t been locked in, the headphones are expected to launch in the coming months — likely in summer. This would align with Nothing’s usual mid-year product announcements. Interestingly, this could also coincide with the rumoured July launch of the Nothing Phone (3), making it a potentially strategic move to strengthen the company’s product ecosystem. But for now, Nothing hasn’t officially confirmed whether the two launches will happen together.
