Mumbai Coastal Road Project: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is ready to launch a new promenade along the Coastal Road by mid-June. The walkway would run 7.5 kilometres from the Worli end of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link to Priyadarshini Park at Breach Candy.
The 20-metre-wide promenade, which faces the sea, is intended for bicycles, joggers, and walkers. By June 15, the entire stretch would be open to the public, giving locals a beautiful and roomy area for leisure, a civic official informed Hindustan Times.
The BMC is building 20 underpasses at 400-metre intervals to increase accessibility. As a result, pedestrians and bicycles will be able to cross the road safely and smoothly between the inland side and the beachfront.
The goal of this project is to develop 70 hectares of open public space along the coastline. The promenade itself is 17 hectares in size; 12 hectares were built by the BMC, while Tata Sons landscaped the remaining 5 hectares, which are situated in the central median. The infrastructure consulting firm AECOM has been in charge of the planning and design.
Thirty percent of the whole promenade area will be paved, with benches, bike lanes, pedestrian routes, and other public facilities, while 70 percent will be set aside for green planting. The project supports Mumbai's objective of encouraging sustainable, healthy urban life.
