Mumbai Elevated Walkway Opening Soon: Mumbai's first elevated forest walkway, located at Malabar Hill, is set to open this month. Originally planned for January, the opening was delayed due to a holdup in completing the final phase of construction.
According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the project is almost finished, with only minor work remaining in the control room and electric panel room. The project is inspired by Singapore’s forest trails.

The walkway spans 482 meters in length and 2.2 meters in width, with a construction cost of Rs 25 crore. It will offer visitors a stunning view of the city and Girgaon Chowpatty while surrounded by the greenery of Malabar Hill. The entry and exit points are located at Siri Road, and an emergency exit will provide direct access to Kamala Nehru Park.
The BMC said they couldn’t put a calendar date to the inauguration as they were awaiting the approval by the senior officials.
An online ticketing scheme will be launched to recover the cost induced in the project. However, the amount hasn’t yet been decided. Officials said that the wooden trail can accommodate over 400 visitors at a time, making crowd control crucial.

The project was proposed in 2020, while the contract for it was awarded in 2021. Several complications, including hilly terrain, conservation efforts for local flora and fauna, and the presence of old British-era pipelines beneath the site, created hindrances in the project.
