Mumbai GMLR Flyover Project Update: According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Mumbai’s Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (GMLR) project will see its first flyover open to the public by May 2026. It will be a six-lane structure, starting near Dindoshi Court and going up to the edge of Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP). Here, a twin tunnel system will direct the traffic underground.

The first phase of the 12.2-kilometre GMLR corridor is designed to improve east-west connectivity across the city.

According to a Times Property report, the west-bound carriageway is expected to be completed by January 2026, with the east-bound section likely to be ready by April 2026.

Elevated walkways and a circular intersection are also being designed for pedestrian safety and improved traffic flow.

Full GMLR Operation Expected By 2029

Once the flyover is complete, construction will shift underground with the excavation of two parallel tunnels running beneath SGNP. Work is slated to begin in early 2026, following the installation of two tunnel boring machines (TBMs).

Excavation is expected to finish by 2028, with the GMLR corridor set to be fully operational by 2029.

Travel Time To Reduce To Just 25 Min!

Goregaon-Mulund travel at present can take up to 90 minutes. Once GMLR is operational travel time will be reduced to just 25 minutes. GMLR will join the Western Express Highway in Goregaon to the eastern suburb of Mulund, providing a good alternative to the existing route.
