At least Seven People were killed and over 40 were injured after a massive fire broke out at a 7-storey building in Mumbai's Goregaon West on Friday, the BMC Disaster Control said.
From the total of 51 injured persons, 7 deaths have been reported so far. Whereas the condition of 5 is critical, 35 persons are being treated and 4 of the injured people have been discharged, the BMC said.
Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis condoled the loss of lives and said, "Pained to know about loss of lives in the fire incident at Goregaon, Mumbai. We are in touch with BMC & Mumbai Police officials & all the assistance is being provided. My deepest condolences to the families who lost their loved ones and wish speedy recovery to the injured ones."

The fire, which broke out at around 3 a.m., burnt at least four cars and 30 two-wheelers in the parking lot of the Jay Bhavani Building. After massive efforts by the firefighters, the blaze was extinguished around 6.55 a.m., said the BMC Disaster Control.
As per officials, the fire was reported at the Jay Bhavani building located on Goregaon's MG road. The fire spread through shops on the ground floor, scrap material as well as several parked vehicles. People were stranded on various floors including the terrace, officials said.
Chief Fire Officer Ravindra Ambulgekar said that the building was constructed in 2006 under the Slum Rehabilitation scheme and had no firefighting system. The lift was old and a significant amount of smoke travelled through the lift duct. The fire was extinguished around 6 a.m.
Eight fire engines, five jumbo water tankers, three automatic turn tables, one turn table ladder, a quick response vehicle and an ambulance were rushed to the spot. Deputy Chief Fire Officer, District Fire Officer, Assistant Divisional Fire Officer, three Senior Station Officers and three Station Officers reached the spot of the incident.
