Mumbai News: The Western Railway (WR) has reported a 40 per cent completion rate for the Jogeshwari Terminus project, which is expected to be operational by September. This new station aims to alleviate congestion at major hubs like Dadar, Mumbai Central and Bandra Terminus.
According to a Times Of India report, the terminus will feature one island platform designed to accommodate two trains simultaneously. It is being built on the eastern side of the tracks, situated between the Ram Mandir and Jogeshwari suburban stations. The platform will be 600 metres long, allowing it to handle trains of up to 24 coaches.
There are plans for Jogeshwari to serve as a terminus for notable services, including the Tejas Express and Vande Bharat trains. In a strategic move, WR intends to relocate 12 train services from Mumbai Central and Bandra Terminus to the new station, which will also introduce additional services to enhance capacity at these busy stations.
The Jogeshwari Terminus will be easily accessible via the Western Express Highway and will connect to key routes, making travel more convenient for passengers and addressing the growing demand for railway services.
In separate news, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is set to widen a section of the Western Express Highway (WEH) in Goregaon, the first such project since it took over the expressways two years ago. The stretch from Mohan Gokhale Road to Aarey Check Naka, currently 45 metres wide, will be expanded to 57-61 metres.
This widening will involve removing around 300 illegal structures, including residential buildings and a tea shop, as well as two water culverts. Affected residents will be compensated financially under BMC’s Removal of Bottleneck Policy, which was successfully used for the S V Road widening project.
