Mumbai Mayor Row: Amid the confusion over the post of Mumbai Mayor, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde met his newly elected corporators on Sunday night at the hotel where they have been kept since Saturday. While addressing the reporters after the meeting, Shinde asserted that the next mayor of Mumbai will be from the ruling Mahayuti alliance. He further denied the reports suggesting an ongoing power tussle between the two key partners of the ally, BJP and Shinde's Sena. While the opposition leaders have alleged that the corporators have been shifted to the hotel fearing a poaching attempt, Shinde's Sena has maintained that the new representatives are being trained there.

While addressing the reporters outside the hotel, Shinde denied the reports of being scared of horse trading, further claiming that the Uddhav Sena was not able to keep "their flock together". “Sena is not a party that gets scared. People are scared of the Sena. In fact, it’s they (Sena-UBT) who are scared and are not able to keep their flock together. The exercise was done for orientation purposes and to guide the newly elected corporators about the functioning of the BMC,” Shinde told the reporters.

“I congratulated the newly elected corporators and instructed them to pay attention to the issues faced by the people in their respective wards,” he added.

Shinde To Demand Key Posts?

Shinde Sena is reportedly involved in the negotiation talks with the BJP, demanding either the mayor post for half of the five-year term or control of the Standing Committee. A final discussion is likely to be held between Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Shinde following the chief minister's return from his Davos trip, reported the Indian Express, citing sources.

While the BJP emerged as the single largest party in the recently concluded Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) election, it needs the support of Shinde Sena to have its mayor in Mumbai.
