Mumbai Metro Line 3: First fully underground line
Mumbai Metro Line 3 is the city's first fully underground metro line, stretching approximately 33.5 kilometres from Colaba in South Mumbai to SEEPZ. It includes 27 stations, with key stops at Churchgate, Dadar, and BKC.
Key stations on the second phase stretch of Line 3 are: Dharavi, Sitaladevi, Dadar, Siddhivinayak, Worli, and Acharya Atre Chowk. The stretch is an engineering marvel as the route between Dharavi and BKC crosses beneath the Mithi River.
Mumbai Metro Line 3: Details of route
At present, the 12.69 km first phase is running between Aarey JVLR and Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). After the 9.77 km BKC-Acharya Atre Chowk inauguration, the second phase will be operationalised, leaving only a 13 km stretch between Worli and Cuffe Parade to be completed in third phase.
It must be noted that the route was slated for inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. However, in the wake of the Pahlgam terror attack, the plan was put on hold and now CM Fadnavis will inaugurate the line. During the inauguration, he will travel on the underground line from BKC to Siddhivinayak metro station.
The construction of the route was reportedly completed in March, but the safety certification was pending. As the certification has been provided, the line will be inaugurated and thrown open to public.
