Mumbai Metro Line 8 Update: The officials on Wednesday stated that the much-hyped metro network between the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai and the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) will give a significant boost to the financial activities in these regions. They stated that the ambitious project is likely to be a crucial transportation project in the Mumbai metropolitan region (MMR).
The nodal agency for the much-awaited project is the City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra Ltd (CIDCO) and it had stated that apart from reducing traffic congestion, the project will give boost to the real estate business too.
“There is an ambitious plan to connect Navi Mumbai International Airport and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport via Mumbai Metro in the coming period,” Vice Chairman and Managing Director of CIDCO, Vijay Singhal, was quoted as saying by the Deccan Herald.
Earlier last month, the authority had stated that the Mumbai metro line 8 will cover a total distance of 35 kilometers, adding that 9.25 km of the total project would be underground. The project will start at CSMIA Terminal-2 and will go through underground route between the CSMIA and Chedda Nagar. It will further run elevated till NMIA and the alignment passes through several key regions, including Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Mankhurd, Vashi, Nerul, Kurla, and Belapur.
"The proposed line will strengthen inter-airport connectivity and cater to growing domestic and international passenger traffic. It is also expected to enhance ease of transfer between the two airports, on tight schedules or connecting flights. The project also aims to decongest surrounding roadways and reduce travel time for airport-bound commuters,” CIDCO officials were quoted as saying by the DH.
“Spearheaded by CIDCO, the Navi Mumbai metro network aims to ensure seamless connectivity between key nodes within Navi Mumbai and with Greater Mumbai,” the officials added.
