Uttar Pradesh is set to transform 15 District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs) into Centers of Excellence with a Rs 170 crore investment. These centers will be equipped with modern infrastructure, including digital resources to promote e-learning, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) labs, and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) labs. Smart classrooms and solar power plants will ensure uninterrupted learning even in remote areas.
According to Dr Pawan Sachan, Joint Director of the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), the 15 districts selected for this second phase include Ghazipur, Bareilly, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Mathura, Pratapgarh, Bhadohi, Azamgarh, Unnao, Hathras, Kanpur, Sultanpur, Firozabad, Shravasti, Baghpat, and Kaushambi. The central Ministry of Education has approved and released funds for this project under the Centers of Excellence scheme.

These upgraded DIETs will offer state-of-the-art facilities for Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) trainees and enhance the quality of training provided to teachers in primary and upper primary schools.
Separate hostels for male and female students, CCTV cameras, seminar halls, and auditoriums will also be constructed. In the first phase of this initiative, 13 DIETs were selected last year and are currently undergoing construction with a Rs 103 crore budget.
