Mumbai Metro Update: In a major update for the commuters, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is reportedly planning to open the much-awaited Chembur Metro station of Line 2B in April. The authority stated that the metro station will provide relief to thousands of passengers by cutting the travel time and reducing traffic congestion. The metro station will also boost the connectivity by linking the western suburbs with the eastern suburbs. It will also give a boost to the financial activities by connecting the residential areas to the business districts like the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC).

Mumbai Metro 2B Details

- The total distance is 23.64 km and is also referred to as the Yellow Line

- Line 2B connects DN Nagar (Andheri West) to Mandale (Mankhurd East)

- Will boost the connectivity by linking the western suburbs with the eastern suburbs

- The metro line will also connect key business districts, providing relief to the daily commuters

- There are a total of 20 elevated stations on this line

- It was scheduled to be opened in three phases

- The first phase will connect Diamond Garden and Mandalay

- The second phase has been designed to link Diamond Garden with Saraswat Nagar

- The third stretch will connect Saraswat Nagar with Andheri West

Earlier on January 27, the Maharashtra government approved a new Metro corridor that will directly connect Mumbai and Navi Mumbai airports. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that the 35-km project has received clearance from the state cabinet.

The proposed line will include a 9-km underground stretch and 25 stations. It is expected to cost around Rs 18,000 crore and will intersect with three existing Metro routes, improving connectivity across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
