Kasarvadavali Flyover Shuts: How Will It Affect Commute To Ahmedabad? Check Alternatives

Maharashtra News: In a major update for the commuters of Thane, the Kasarvadavali flyover, just 14 months after its inauguration, has been shut following emergence of cracks on the structure. The MMRDA conducted an inspection and took the decision after the cracks and a hanging concrete portion were spotted. The key route for the commuters travelling to Gujarat will remain closed until the problem is fixed, the officials confirmed.

Flyover Reduced Congestion

Earlier last year, the flyover was inaugurated to reduce traffic congestion on the Ghodbunder Road and provide convenience to the Gujarat-bound commuters. With the closure of the flyover, the travelers are likely to face several inconveniences, especially with reports suggesting the re-opening could take three to four months, reported the Hindustan Times.

The commuters travelling towards Ahmedabad and nearby cities are likely to face severe congestion due to this decision, reported HT, citing the local residents. Apart from this, the traffic congestion is likely to significantly increase around Kasarvadavali due to the temporary closure of the flyover.

What Are The Alternatives?

While providing details, Pankaj Sirsath, DCP (Traffic), Thane Police, stated that the commuters can use the slip roads to avoid the rush. He further stated that the re-opening date of the flyover will depend on the time taken by the authorities to complete the inspection.

"Vehicles can use the slip roads to travel towards Gaimukh. The shutdown period of the flyover will depend on the time taken by the MMRDA to complete its inspection. While the exact reason behind the cracks is not known yet, use of poor quality products could be the reason behind the issue just over a year after its inauguration.
