Mumbai News: Commuters and residents in Mumbai’s Andheri West are facing daily traffic issues due to the ongoing closure of a portion of the Mogra Nallah main bridge on Achyutrao Patwardhan Marg. The bridge has been partially shut for the past two years to facilitate work on the Metro Line 6 project, leading to severe congestion in the area.

The situation has become particularly difficult for people living in Lokhandwala. With only one lane operational, traffic from both directions is forced to move through a narrow stretch, causing long delays. Frustrated by the lack of progress, some residents have raised complaints with civic officials.

The Times Of India report cited Prashant Rane, a local resident and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) worker as submitting a written complaint to the BMC bridges department and MMRDA’s Metro Line 6 planners. He alleged that despite the closure, no visible repair or construction work has been carried out so far.

According to Rane, the closed section of the bridge is currently being used to store construction materials. He also highlighted the presence of a 400–500-tonne iron span placed on the old bridge structure for nearly two years, which he said could lead to a collapse or major accident due to the ageing structure.

Rane further pointed out that the area under the bridge has become a gathering spot for antisocial activities like public drinking. In his complaint, he requested the authorities to either resume work immediately or reopen the bridge if construction cannot begin soon. He also demanded penalties for the delay.

While the BMC bridges department confirmed that the site was handed over for Metro work, the MMRDA has yet to respond to the concerns raised.
