The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai resonated with the sound of train horns at midnight, marking the arrival of 2025. As the clock struck twelve, all local trains stationed at the platforms honked in unison, creating a celebratory atmosphere that commuters eagerly captured and shared on social media.

The midnight honking tradition, synonymous with CSMT, has become a cherished event for railway staff, commuters and onlookers. Passengers aboard stationary trains cheered and clapped as the festive symphony filled the station, with many praising the unique celebration. Union Minister of Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw, shared a video of the event on X, greeting citizens with "Happy 2025!"

The video, which quickly went viral, showcased the station's iconic clock transitioning from 11:59 to 00:00, synchronised with the horns of all trains in the yard. The moment drew widespread attention, with social media users expressing amazement at the tradition. While some admitted they were unaware of the custom, others noted its resemblance to maritime practices, where sea vessels blow their horns at full volume to celebrate the New Year.

The celebrations at CSMT were part of the broader festive fervour in Mumbai, where thousands flocked to the city's promenade along the Arabian Sea for New Year events. Parties, cultural performances, live music and vibrant decorations added to the excitement across the financial capital.

Meanwhile, authorities ensured public safety with elaborate security measures. Over 14,000 police personnel were deployed across Mumbai to maintain law and order during the celebrations, according to officials.
