Mumbai News: A 16-year-old boy has been accused of fatally stabbing a man at a railway station following a dispute over a seat on a local train, police reported on Friday. The incident took place on November 15 at Ghatkopar station and authorities detained the teenager on Wednesday. His older brother was also arrested for assisting in covering up the crime.

The victim, identified as Ankush Bhagwan Bhalerao, boarded a fast train bound for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus from Titwala on November 14. During the journey, a confrontation erupted when Ankush and the minor argued over a seat. The situation escalated when Ankush slapped the teenager.

The following morning, Ankush was on platform no. 4 at Ghatkopar when the boy attacked him with a knife. He suffered serious injuries and was taken to Rajawadi Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police reviewed CCTV footage from the station, which led to the minor's detention. During questioning, the boy admitted to the murder, revealing that he had hidden the knife on the roof of his house and changed his hairstyle to avoid detection. He has since been placed in a juvenile detention centre, while his brother faces charges for his involvement in the cover-up.

In separate news, a man was arrested on Thursday in Thane district for allegedly killing his three-year-old niece and disposing of her body. The girl, who went missing on November 18 from her home in Prem Nagar, Ulhasnagar, was found dead on Thursday. The accused, in his 30s, confessed to the crime during interrogation, claiming he did not intend to kill her. He stated that while playing with the girl, he jokingly slapped her, causing her to collide with a kitchen slab, which led to her death. In a panic, he attempted to burn her body before discarding it in nearby bushes. The body has been sent for postmortem.
