Mumbai-Pune Expressway: India's road network is always getting better. The nation is currently developing a lot of expressways, but do you know which one is the most expensive to drive on? Which national highway will charge you the highest toll?

According to media reports, the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, which connects two important cities, is said to be the most costly expressway to travel, even when taking into account the higher toll compared to other national roads.

A four-wheeler travelling one way over the Mumbai-Pune highway costs Rs 320. According to the reports, the toll per kilometre is Rs 3.40, which is Rs 1 higher per km than the average toll rate of other expressways in the nation.

The Mumbai-Pune Expressway, built by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), was the nation's first access-controlled roadway, cutting the three-hour travel time between the two cities to just 1-hour.

Every three years, the toll is raised by six percent, with a cumulative rise of 18 percent. The previous revision was made in April 2023, at which point the toll was raised from Rs 270 to Rs 320 and from Rs 420 to Rs 495 for vehicles such as tempos and minibuses.

The present two-axle truck toll of Rs 585 was raised to Rs 685. Buses used to pay Rs 797, but now they pay Rs 940. Authorities had said that there would be no changes made to the toll after three years in 2026, meaning it would stay the same until 2030.
