Mumbai-Pune High-Speed Rail Corridor To Cut Travel Time To 48 Minutes; Check Expected Launch Date, Frequency, Other Details

Mumbai-Pune Bullet Train: Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has unveiled the details of the proposed high-speed rail corridor between Mumbai and Pune, which would slash the travel time between the two cities to just 48 minutes, a significant reduction from the current three- to four-hour journey by conventional rail.

Speaking at a post-budget press conference, Vaishnaw shared the project’s details, timeline, and future development plans for this high-speed rail corridor.

Mumbai-Pune Bullet Train

Presenting her ninth consecutive Union Budget on Sunday, February 1, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a Mumbai-Pune high-speed rail corridor, one of seven new corridors across India aimed at significantly reducing travel times and modernising rail connectivity.

Vaishnaw announced a record Rs 23,926 crore budget allocation for Maharashtra in the Union Budget 2026-27. "Rs 23,926 crore will be the total railway budget outlay for Maharashtra. Meanwhile, Rs 1.70 lakh crore worth of projects are ongoing in the state that will include the new high-speed rail corridors between Mumbai-Pune and Pune-Hyderabad, freight corridors and others," he said.

As a part of this, a high-speed rail corridor will be developed between Mumbai and Pune, which would slash the travel time between the two cities to just 48 minutes, enhancing connectivity and allowing commuters to travel for work and return the same day with ease.

When Will Mumbai-Pune High-Speed Be Operational?

The Railway Minister stated that the ministry aims to complete the major high-speed rail corridors within the next five years. Work on the Mumbai-Pune high-speed rail corridor has begun in its first phase, and the government is committed to opening the route for passengers on schedule.

Trains To Run Every 15 Minutes On Mumbai-Pune High-Speed Rail Corridor?

In view of the high passenger demand, the railway not only aims to operate the trains but also to ensure frequent services. Vaishnaw stated that during peak hours, trains will run every 15 to 20 minutes, offering significant convenience for the commuters.
