Mumbai- Pune Train Update: Train services on the Mumbai-Pune Railway Line will face significant disruption this Sunday as Central Railway carries out a planned mega block for maintenance. The block will affect both long-distance express trains and local services, leading to multiple cancellations and curtailed operations through the day.

Mumbai- Pune Trains Cancelled On Sunday

According to a Free Press Journal report, several major intercity trains linking Mumbai and Pune will not run on Sunday. Services such as the Sinhagad Express, Deccan Queen Express, Pragati Express, Mumbai-Pune Intercity Express and the Indrayani Express have been fully cancelled for the day. Passengers using these popular trains have been advised to check schedules in advance and make alternative arrangements.

Local Train Between Pune And Lonavala Affected

Local services between Pune and Lonavala will also remain affected. While some trains on this route have been cancelled, others will operate only up to or from Talegaon Dabhade Railway Station. These altered services will not complete the full stretch between Pune and Lonavala. Railway officials have urged commuters to review the revised timetable to avoid inconvenience.

Sunday Mega Block

Central Railway usually schedules mega blocks on Sundays to undertake essential work that cannot be managed during the week, when passenger traffic is much heavier. The maintenance includes repairs on tracks, overhead wires, signalling systems, points and bridges. Officials say these uninterrupted work windows are necessary to maintain safety and ensure smooth suburban and long-distance operations.

Sundays and public holidays are preferred as commuter numbers are lower, reducing the overall impact on daily travel. Mega blocks are common across the Main, Harbour and Trans-Harbour lines, as well as occasionally on the Mumbai-Pune intercity section. Their duration generally ranges between four and seven hours. Recent blocks, such as the one scheduled between Vidyavihar and Thane from 8 AM to 1:30 PM, reflect a trend of longer maintenance periods to address larger infrastructure needs.
