Mumbai News: If you've ever found yourself rushing to catch a flight amid Mumbai's notorious traffic, Uber has introduced a solution. The ride-hailing has rolled out a new "Missed Flight Connection Cover", which provides compensation of up to Rs 7,500 for passengers who miss their flights due to road delays.

Launched in late February in collaboration with Reliance General Insurance, this cover aims to alleviate the stress caused by ongoing roadwork across 701 km in Mumbai, managed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Traffic disruptions have become increasingly common, prompting this initiative.

According to a Hindustan Times report, passengers can add this coverage for just an extra Rs 3 per ride. The coverage applies only when the destination is set as ‘airport’ during the booking process. In addition to compensation for missed flights, it also covers outpatient and medical expenses in the event of an accident.

How To Claim Uber Coverage

To make a claim, passengers must provide several documents, including a completed claim form, booking details, the flight ticket, airline confirmation of no travel and a crossed cheque for NEFT. Uber has advised riders to factor in a buffer time of 90 to 120 minutes for their journey to ensure they arrive on time.

However, the ongoing road conditions are also affecting drivers. At a recent meeting with the Maharashtra Rajya Rashtriya Kamgar Sangh (MRRKS), drivers expressed frustration over frequent disputes with passengers regarding delays. Anand Kute, an organising secretary for MRRKS, pointed out that the app often shows an unrealistic estimated time of arrival, which fails to account for roadwork.

On Tuesday, cab drivers even staged a flash strike at Mumbai airport, protesting low fares and challenging road conditions. Uber’s response to these issues is awaited and will be updated as more information becomes available.
