Mumbai Weather Update: The country’s financial capital began Sunday with deteriorating air quality, as the Air Quality Index (AQI) touched 115 by 10 am, placing the city in the moderate to unhealthy range, data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) showed. The decline came despite clear skies and comparatively mild winter conditions, leaving many residents surprised.
Morning temperatures remained pleasant at around 22 Degree Celsius, while humidity stood at 53 per cent and wind speeds were recorded at nearly 14 kmph. Cooler conditions were also felt across the Konkan belt, Central Maharashtra and Marathwada, with the chill expected to continue over the next 48 hours.
Mumbai Weather Forecast
Minimum temperatures in Mumbai and the Konkan region are expected to range between 17 and 21 Degree Celsius, while the rest of Maharashtra will witness cooler conditions, with lows between 9 and 12 Degree Celsius. The chilliest reading in the state was recorded at 8.6 Degree Celsius in Ahilyanagar.
Over the next two days, cities such as Sangli, Solapur, Kolhapur and Buldhana may see minimum temperatures staying above 12 Degree Celsius. From Sunday onwards, as the state moves closer to Makar Sankranti on Wednesday, January 14, early morning temperatures are likely to edge up slightly, easing the intensity of the cold.
Maharashtra Weather Update
1. A cyclonic circulation from North India has moved over Maharashtra, blocking the usual cold, dry easterly winds and allowing moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal to enter the state, slightly reducing the intensity of the cold.
2. In about 10 districts of Central Maharashtra, winds are currently flowing from south to north, an unusual pattern contributing to temporary weather changes.
3. Due to this system, the present cold conditions are expected to ease marginally, with the colder phase likely to return after Makar Sankranti, according to the forecast.
4. Ahead of Bhogi on Tuesday, January 13, cloudy skies are expected in Khandesh, Nashik, Ahilyanagar, Sangli and Solapur districts.
5. Pune, Satara and Kolhapur may also witness cloudy weather, with a chance of very light rainfall at isolated locations, as stated by retired meteorological official Manikrao Khule.
6. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated continued weather fluctuations over the next few days; meanwhile, Amritsar recorded the lowest temperature in the country at 1.3 Degree Celsius, while Dhule was the coldest in Maharashtra at 6 Degree Celsius, followed by Parbhani at 6.4 Degree Celsius.
7. Cities including Jalgaon, Malegaon, Nashik, Gondia, Bhandara and Nagpur recorded minimum temperatures around 10 Degree Celsius, and despite fluctuations, cold conditions will persist with a possible cold wave expected in parts of the state in the coming days.
