Mumbai Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for hot and humid conditions in Mumbai along with Thane, Palghar, and Raigad for Tuesday, April 22. However, the weather body has stated that the heat levels will dip post Thursday bringing respite to the people. Chandrapur recorded 45.6 degree Celsius Monday. Mumbai’s Santacruz and Colaba coastal observatories registered normal maximum temperatures of around 33.5 degrees on Monday.

While Mumbai has been placed under a yellow alert on Tuesday, neighbouring pockets like Thane and Raigad were issued an extended yellow alert until Wednesday at least. While no heatwave has been declared in the city, the weather bureau said in its forecast bulletin that Mumbai’s maximum temperatures are likely to go over 36 degrees between Tuesday and Wednesday. Meanwhile, neighbours like Thane are forecast to see their mercury levels climb to highs of up to 39 degree Celsius by Wednesday.

Meteorologists have attributed this weather pattern to northwesterly winds, which, according to the MET bureau’s inference charts, have generally prevailed in the lower atmospheric levels over the region since Monday, as per an Indian Express report.

According to reports from the CPCB, Mumbai's Air Quality Index (AQI) stands at 77, categorized as 'Satisfactory' for air quality. Individuals with respiratory conditions are advised to limit outdoor activities and wear masks.
