A 71-year-old Mumbai woman alleged that 18.5 lakh rupees were deducted from her account in 2 days as she attempted to order milk through an online delivery platform, police said on Saturday. 

The Wadala resident lost all her life savings, amounting to 18.5 lakh, while attempting to buy milk online earlier this month. 

The victim received a call from a man named Deepak, claiming to executive from the milk company, who sent a link to her mobile phone number asking her to furnish her details to order milk, the official said.

The call lasted for more than an hour as the victim was asked not to cut the call and open the link, and follow the instructions while being on the call. The woman said that she had got bored with the call and hung up after one hour. 

She received a call from the same accused the next day, who furnished further details from the woman. 

The woman discovered the fraud during a routine bank visit days later, she found that 1.7 lakh was deducted from her one account. She later checked her other two accounts and found out that those two accounts had been emptied.

According to the police, the woman lost a total of 18.5 lakh rupees from all three accounts. Based on a complaint, the police registered a case earlier this week, and a probe is underway, the official said.
