Mumbai Weather: As the monsoon season continues to wreak havoc across India, the financial capital of India, Mumbai, is gearing up to face a deluge of rain in the coming days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the city, warning of moderate rainfall activity that is expected to stretch into the next week.
Mumbai: Heavy To Very Heavy Rainfall In Next 24Hrs
According to the weather forecasting agency, Mumbai and its surrounding suburbs are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours. The Regional Meteorological Centre in Mumbai has predicted that the city may witness occasional gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 km/h, while the maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to remain between 30 degrees Celsius and 25 degrees Celsius.
"There is a low-pressure area and an offshore trough, causing heavy rains over the city," said Sushma Nair, a scientist at the IMD. "As of now, we have issued a yellow alert, but we will update it as necessary."
Mumbai Surspasses Seasonal Average Rainfall Quota
In the 24 hours leading up to 8:30 am on August 24, Colaba recorded 14 mm of rainfall, while Santacruz saw 59 mm. The heavy downpour has resulted in a significant drop in temperatures across the city, with the maximum temperature at Colaba reaching 27.5 degrees Celsius and in Santacruz, 27.8 degrees Celsius.
The monsoon season has been particularly harsh on Mumbai, with the city surpassing its seasonal average rainfall quota of 2,319 mm on August 24 evening. The total rainfall recorded in the city since the onset of the monsoon stands at a staggering 2,361 mm.
The heavy rains have also contributed to the city's water woes, with the total stock in the seven lakes supplying water to Mumbai surpassing 95 percent of the total capacity on Saturday morning, reaching 95.27 percent.
Maharashtra Rain: Heavy Rainfall alert For Pune, Nagpur, Thane
Interestingly, the IMD's regional centre in Pune has also issued a red alert for very heavy rains in Maharashtra's Raigad district for August 25. Additionally, the centre has issued heavy rainfall alerts for several other districts, including Pune, Nagpur, Palghar, Thane, and Ratnagiri
