Family vacation turned fatal after a 32-year-old woman was swept away by a huge wave at the Bandra Bandstand in Mumbai, on Sunday, July 9. The victim, identified as Jyoti Sonar, was visiting the Bandra Bandstand with her husband Mukesh and their three children. Jyoti and Mukesh had climbed a rock so they could take pictures against the beautiful scenery.
According to the information, the couple were sitting on a rock trying to capture a happy moment when everything changed in a split second as the big wave struck. Loud screams of the kids shouting "maa", "mumma" could be heard as they helplessly watched her getting swept away.

The family had intended to go to Juhu Chowpatty on the incident day, but due to the high tide, they were unable to access the beach. They chose to proceed in the direction of Bandra after changing their minds.
The family moved closer to the water to take pictures once they arrived at Bandra Fort. The kids were taking pictures of the parents who were seated on a rock to pose. A huge wave suddenly hit them, carrying Jyoti with it.
Jyoti died in a matter of seconds, while her husband, Mukesh, a resident of Mumbai's Rabale area, was left holding onto Jyoti's saree in an unsuccessful attempt to save her. Some onlookers responded quickly, grabbing Mukesh by the feet and pulling him back to safety.
The witnesses of the tragedy quickly notified the police and officials from the fire brigade and police came to the site right away. Jyoti Sonar drowned in the sea at Bandra Fort on last Sunday, prompting a search and rescue operation. Her body was found on Monday by the Indian Coast Guard. An ICG officer stated that they found Jyoti's body and gave it to the police before she was taken to the Cooper Hospital in the city.
