In a major infrastructure push in the financial capital of India, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, on Sunday, December 14, laid out a plan to transform the state through a set of modern infrastructure, transport and governance initiatives.

Mumbai-Hyderabad Expressway:

- Cost: Rs 36,000 crore

- Route: The Expressway will pass through Thane, Pune, Ahilyanagar, Beed, and Latur districts.

- The Mumbai-Hyderabad Expressway, also called the Jankalyan Expressway, is a new 450 km access-controlled corridor linking the financial capital Mumbai with Hyderabad through Kalyan and Latur.

- The expressway will shorten the distance between Mumbai and Hyderabad by over 180 km, thereby shortening the travel time between Mumbai and Latur by around four and a half hours. The corridor is also expected to improve regional connectivity.

Other major projects include the parallel expressway to the existing Mumbai–Pune corridor, the Orange Gate–Marine Drive tunnel, coastal road extensions from Versova to Uttan and Virar, the Thane–Borivli and Goregaon–Mulund tunnels, the Panvel coastal road near the upcoming Navi Mumbai airport, an Atal Setu interchange, the Pune ring road and several long-pending ‘missing link’ projects.

Navin Nagpur Business District

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also announced the development of ‘Navin Nagpur’, a new central business complex, which is spread across an area of 1,710 hectares. The business complex is modelled around Mumbai’s Bandra-Kurla Complex and Pune’s Hinjewadi. The project is expected to generate over 5,00,000 jobs.

He also revealed plans for a modern air training centre in Amravati, to be developed with Air India’s support, housing 34 trainer aircraft and 14 Piper aircraft.

Infra Push In Mumbai

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced a host of infrastructure projects for Mumbai:

- The Mumbai Metro network, which currently spans across 91 km and has a passenger footfall of 9.5 lakh passengers daily, will be expanded to 132 km within the next two years.

- At least 50 km of new Metro lines are planned to be made operational every year.

- Besides Mumbai, metro rail expansion is also expected in Pune and Nagpur, which already has 33 km and 40 km of operational corridors, respectively.
