Mumbai:  The newly constructed Katai-Nilje Flyover, also known as the Palava Flyover, which was built to ease traffic movement between Shilphata and Kalyan, started drawing criticism a few days after its inauguration. The Palava Flyover was inaugurated on July 4 by Shiv Sena MLA Rajesh More from Dombivli. On the first day of its opening, two bikers skidded on the flyover and sustained minor injuries. Within four days of its opening, it started facing criticism on the internet with people citing it as a ‘skidding zone’ with loose gravel, muddy patches, cement spills and poorly laid tar.

The Palava flyover is 562 metres in length, out of which a 450-metre stretch is showing signs of poor quality. Contractors from the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) are continuously working on the hazardous sections to prevent accidents. The flyover was constructed at a cost of Rs 250 crore.

Netizens React To The Poor Quality Of Palava Flyover

Several viral videos showing the poor construction quality of Palava Flyover are going viral on the internet, garnering criticism from netizens. Netizens are labelling this flyover as a ‘skidding zone’ and calling it out as a ‘sheer corruption’.

Expressing frustration over the poor condition of the bridge, an X user wrote, “The Rs.. 250 crores Katai Nilje Flyover, commonly known as Palava flyover, opened 4 days ago, resembles a construction site, with loose gravel, muddy patches, cement spills & poorly laid tar. Even someone with cataracts can spot the flaws, to which authorities have turned a blind eye. The user further called the bridge a reflection of sheer corruption. “

Other users also took to X to show their reaction towards the pathetic condition of the newly inaugurated flyover. A user wrote, “Such Third Class Roads..Inauguration 4th July, Potholes 5th July, Roads don't last even 24 hours..This is the state of the Palava Flyover on Kalyan Shil Road...”

The construction of the Palava flyover began in December 2018 with the aim of reducing persistent traffic congestion between Shilphata and Kalyan. According to the construction plan, two parallel structures - one connecting Shilphata (Desai Naka) to Kalyan (Katai Naka), and the other in the opposite direction were to be constructed. However, the construction was halted due to a proposed expansion of Indian Railways’ Dedicated Freight Corridor. The flyover is supported by 45 foundations or pillars and extends from Desai Creek to the Katai toll naka.
