Mumbai's iconic Siddhivinayak Temple has introduced a new dress code for its devotees. The updated guidelines prohibit short clothing and torn jeans, requiring attendees to wear traditional Indian attire covering the body fully. Those who fail to adhere to the new rules will not be allowed to enter he temple.

The Temple Trust stated that the decision to implement the dress code was made in response to requests from devotees.

Devoted men and women who visit the temple for darshan are expected to dress in traditional Indian attire or fully covered apparel, according to a statement released by the Siddhivinayak Ganpati Mandir Trust.

When visiting the temple, devotees are asked to dress in a way that respects the temple's purity and etiquette. People will not be allowed admission if they are dressed in inappropriate or revealing clothes.

Wearing ripped jeans, skirts, or anything too exposing or inappropriate for the temple setting are examples of immodest or indecent clothes. All devotees are urged to dress in a way that honours Indian cultural norms.

The decision about the devotees' attire was made in response to a request from the followers, Pawan Tripathi, the trust's treasurer, told Mid-day.

He said, "We have received compliments about the clothes of some devotees from the other devotees. They want some restrictions on clothes."

According to Tripathi, devotees must abide by the choices made by the temple trust.

Many Indian temples have recently instituted a dress code for their devotees.

Meanwhile, the temple trust also made the decision to discontinue the distribution of Prasad using plastic bags. The temple packs prasad in paper bags as part of the experimental effort. The BMC has begun to take measures against the usage of single-use plastics.
