The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) is expected to finalise and announce its seat-sharing agreement following a crucial meeting of senior leaders from its constituent parties—Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT) and the NCP (Sharad Pawar faction). The high-stakes meeting, aimed at resolving differences over key seats, will be held in Mumbai. Prominent leaders, including Uddhav Thackeray, AICC Maharashtra in-charge Ramesh Chennithala and Sharad Pawar will be in attendance to break the deadlock and shape the coalition’s electoral strategy.
The coalition is said to be in troubled waters over the allocation of key seats between Shiv Sena (UBT) and Congress in regions such as Vidarbha, Mumbai and Nashik.

Nashik West seat has become a flashpoint between the two coalition partners. Reports also suggest that Sena leader Sanjay Raut staged a walkout from the key meeting after Nana Patole presented Congress’ bid for this seat.
Vidarbha region has become another bone of contention amid the ongoing seat-sharing negotiations in MVA. The Thackeray faction has laid claim to 12 important constituencies, including Armori, Chimur and Ramtek. These seats are currently occupied by either the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) or independent candidates, and the Thackeray faction contends that their claim is valid since these positions are not held by incumbents from the MVA. However, the Congress party has been reluctant to give up several of these constituencies to Sena.
Nana Patole said the logjam was persistent among the MVA partners over 35-40 seats. Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said the coalition had managed to create consensus in 210 seats. “We have arrived at a consensus on 210 seats. It is a significant achievement. We aim to contest polls as a joint force, and we will defeat the forces looting Maharashtra,” he said.
Amid the pandemonium, Uddhav Thackeray called a meeting with his party leaders to discuss the further course of action on Monday.
Congress’ CEC meeting was also held in New Delhi to discuss the contention over Maharashtra polls. As per the reports, the screening committee finalised candidates in 96 seats. The screening committee and the CEC will again meet on October 25 to give final shape to the proposals.
